How does synchronization work?
The synchronization works between Android devices and PC/Mac computers as well. In this case when you make a change in one of the devices e.g. in a note you will see it on the other device as well.
When shall I make backup?
(You should use synchronization instead of backup/restore)
Backup is automatic which means that every time you start the program it checks whether there is a change in notes, commentary, etc. databases and if there is any it makes backup. You should make a backup only if you want to save a state.
How can I keep my notes and other data?
The simplest way for keep your data is to use automatic synchronization. (You should use synchronization instead of backup/restore)
Backup/Restore:
The program makes backups of our data (notes, bookmarks, etc.) to the default SD card of the phone/tablet to the 'backup' subdirectory of its 'BibleDiscovery' directory which is usually /sdcard/BibleDiscovery/backup. (To define the exact place start about menu in the program's menu and choose an optional module as the program shows the exact place of the module in the file system.)
You need to and it is recommended to archive this directory sometimes. Archiving can be e.g. copying to a PC (by USB cable) or copying to e.g. DropBox/Google Drive/etc. file.
After the archive make sure it was successful, so e.g. when archiving DropBox check whether the files are there in the DropBox account.
How can I install my data from one device to the other? (e.g. after a phone change)
The simplest way for keep your data is to use automatic synchronization. (You should use synchronization instead of backup/restore)
First archive the data of the Bible program in the way previously described, even if you do not need the data archived.
Backup/Restore:
- If the program works on an external SD card: usually it is enough to take the SD card out of the device and put it into the other.
- If the program works on a not removable SD card or the program does not recognize the content of the SD card in the other device: go through the restore procedure.
How can I restore from an earlier backup?
(You should use synchronization instead of backup/restore)
Backup/Restore:
Copy the formerly saved files into a new optional subdirectory of the backup directory used by the program (usually /sdcard/BibleDiscovery/backup). Start the program and choose restore menu (from backup) in the main menu. A window comes out with the directory you want to restore. Choose this directory on the screen and press restore button. The program changes the current datafiles to the backup files and restore is ready. Exit the program and restart Bible Discovery. Now you can see the former backup data.
